4 Days

4 Days in Timboon

For lovers of artisan food and brews, for those who like to explore – Timboon is a hidden gem near all the iconic Great Ocean Road attractions.

DAY 1:

Indulge in whiskey and icecream

Check into your accommodation and then head into the heart of the village for a relaxing, leisurely foodie experience at the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery and our Timboon Ice Creamery right next door.

The local distiller is daring and brave, so get excited about the whisky tastings. There’s a fully licensed cafe/restaurant where you can order meals based on seasonal local produce. There’s also a massive provedore of gourmet goods that you can take home with you. The place is family friendly and open 7 days from 10am to 4.30pm.

After lunch, walk a few paces to our state-of-the-art building where the best ice cream in the region is made. You can choose from our signature and limited flavors, plus take home some of our staples like Vanilla, Chocolate and Espresso (we even have takeaway dog friendly ice-cream). We’re open daily from 11am to 5pm.

Get an early night, because you’ve got a big day of eating and exploring tomorrow.

DAY 2:

12 Apostles Gourmet Trail

For lovers of artisan food and beverage — this is the big one.

You can start the gourmet trail in Timboon, which takes you down to Port Campbell, across and up to Simpson, and back to Timboon again. Or, you can go the reverse order and see the sun set over the ocean.

If you head off nice and early in the morning, you can take your time and experience all the wares magnificently prepared by these local producers:

The food trail has something to satisfy everyone’s sweet and savory taste buds — and the drive, as part of the experience, is spectacular with coastal views, forest and rolling green farmland.

DAY 3:

Burn some energy at Childers Cove

After all that eating, today’s the day to burn off some energy at Childers Cove and plug into nature.

My family and I love to visit this secret little cove because it’s fairly quiet in winter. Rug up, park the car at the designated car park and make your way down the stairs to your very own private beach.

Take your time wandering along the shoreline and look for little sea creatures, shells and driftwood. Sit, relax and take in the views of the ancient cliff faces, with their layers of different colored rock and stone.

It’s a wonderful way to appreciate the power of the historic Shipwreck Coast.

Direction:
The Timboon-Nullawarre Road is the fastest route from Timboon to Childer’s Cove. Follow the signs and watch out for wildlife.

DAY 4:

A day about town

Before you head home, here are a few more things you should do and see in and around Timboon:

Rail Trestle Bridge (Curdies River Bridge)

This heritage listed trestle bridge was built in 1892 and is one of the few surviving railway structures of this type in Victoria. You can access the bridge when heading of Timboon on the Terang-Warrnambool Road, turning right just after the Shell Service Station and following the signs for 5kms.

Power Creek Reserve Playground

If you’ve come to Timboon with the kids in tow, you need to wear them out before piling them into the car for the drive home. Right behind the distillery is a modern train themed playground, skate park, barbecue area and a sloping grassy area for the kids to roll down.
