Let me help you plan your Great Ocean Road trip

I am here to help you explore the Great Ocean Road region, but I’m still learning and can make mistakes. For the best local advice, visit a visitor information centre. This is a large region, so plan for travel distances and your length of stay.

Hello

Hi! Let me help you plan your Great Ocean Road trip

New on the Great Ocean Road this Summer

Whether you are a regular summer visitor or this is your first time visiting the Great Ocean Road region, there are many new places to discover this year.

This summer, the Great Ocean Road region is welcoming a wave of new places to stay, new ways to explore and a few freshly opened spots worth building a trip around. From accommodation that’s just opened its doors to new trails, lookouts and experiences that give you a different view of the coast and hinterland, there’s plenty that’s new for the season ahead.

Basalt Wines Retreat

Just off the Great Ocean Road between Port Fairy and Warrnambool, Basalt Wines has added two boutique cabins nestled within its vineyard, offering a new way to stay right among the vines. Set near the volcanic landscape of Tower Hill, the cabins combine cosy interiors with premium finishes and views across the gently sloping vineyard.

Glamping at Apollo Bay

This summer, discover a fresh way to enjoy Apollo Bay with the park’s brand-new eco-safari tents. Nestled beside the Barham River and surrounded by native plants, these fully furnished tents make it easy to slow down, relax and soak up the natural beauty of the coast. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a friend’s adventure, each tent offers a cosy, stylish space with a deck for lounging and riverside views.

Step into a Palm Springs inspired escape at The Monty. Just a short walk from Anglesea River, the main beach and local cafés, it’s the perfect base for a summer getaway on the Great Ocean Road. With thoughtfully curated rooms, an outdoor pool, spa and lounge, plus easy access to the town’s boutiques and beaches, The Monty offers a fresh, stylish way to relax and soak up the coastal vibe.

Lake Colac Holiday Park

Lake Colac Holiday Park is welcoming summer with brand new cabins now open on site, offering a fresh way to stay right on the Lake Colac foreshore. With Lake Colac right next door, it’s an easy base for fishing, boating and relaxed days by the water. Add in a short drive to the Otways and the Great Ocean Road, and these new cabins make it even easier to settle in and explore the region this summer.

Otways Distillery

Just a short drive from Apollo Bay and the Great Ocean Road, Otways Distillery is bringing the flavours of the region to life with small-batch gins, vodkas and limoncellos. This summer, be among the first to experience their new tasting room (opening December 2025) and sample these handcrafted tipples straight from the source.

Poombeeyt Koontapool at Loch Ard Gorge

Poombeeyt Koontapool is a striking new lookout offering full views of the blowhole at Loch Ard Gorge. Inspired by the shape of a Southern Right Whale, its name means “breath of the whale” in First Nations Keerray Woorroong language. It’s a fresh way to explore the precinct’s trails, dramatic cliffs and sweeping Southern Ocean views this summer.

The newly opened Poorpa Yanyeen Meerreeng Trail stretches 19.3 km linking Timboon to Port Campbell. Perfect for walking or riding, the trail winds through tall forests, rolling farmland, coastal thickets and wetlands. Highlights include elevated bridges and a cantilevered boardwalk with sweeping Southern Ocean views.

The Corner Sauna

Tucked beside Shelter Café in Apollo Bay, The Corner Sauna offers a unique wood-fired sauna and cold plunge experience. Perfect for a relaxing pause during your Great Ocean Road adventures, it’s a peaceful spot to unwind, recharge and reconnect. Bookings are essential, so secure your spot online and add a little wellness to your summer escape.
