Let me help you plan your Great Ocean Road trip

I am here to help you explore the Great Ocean Road region, but I’m still learning and can make mistakes. For the best local advice, visit a visitor information centre. This is a large region, so plan for travel distances and your length of stay.

Hello

Hi! Let me help you plan your Great Ocean Road trip

Op Shopping and Antique Finds in the Great Ocean Road Region

Here’s something the Great Ocean Road region doesn’t always get credit for: it is absolutely brilliant op shopping and antique finds.

Venture off the main road and into the inland towns and you'll find a network of markets, sheds, warehouses and treasure-filled stores that will have you rearranging your boot before you've even made it halfway around the region. Whether you're a serious collector or someone who just can't walk past a good op shop without having a look, this one's for you.

Pombo Mart, Pomborneit

You cannot drive past Pombo Mart. The iconic yellow shed on the highway is unmissable, and once you walk through the door you will be completely overwhelmed — in the very best way — by the shedload of collectables and salvaged treasures inside. Antique dolls, a serious record collection, mid to late 20th century furniture and home adornments, and things you genuinely cannot categorise. It’s one of those shops that makes you feel like you’ve gone time travelling. One of our absolute favourites.

Colac’s Murray Street Market

Murray Street Market, Colac

The Murray Street Market in Colac is a warm, lively and wonderfully community-minded stop on the trail. Collectors display their finds alongside local makers, record hunters rummage through well-stocked vinyl collections, and day-trippers browse everything from antiques and vintage clothing to handmade jewellery and local produce.

Oakbrook Collectables

Oakbrook Collectables, Camperdown

Conveniently located near the iconic Camperdown Clocktower, Oakbrook Collectables is a must for anyone who loves anything old and interesting. A large warehouse and adjoining yard packed with industrial pieces, garagenalia, retro and rustic items, vintage furniture and all manner of unusual and unique finds. The team works hard to keep new stock moving through constantly, so there is always a reason to come back. If you’re on the lookout for a statement piece, this is your place.

Vintage Gnotuk

Vintage Gnotuk, Camperdown

Just around the corner, Vintage Gnotuk is well worth adding to your Camperdown loop. Vintage glassware, period furniture and collectable books linked to the town’s 19th-century feature heavily here. Plus the beautifully maintained early 19th-century streetscape of Camperdown makes the whole experience feel like a genuine step back in time. Set aside a full morning for this town if you can.

Fletcher Jones Market

Fletcher Jones Market, Warrnambool

Fletcher Jones Market is one of those places you walk into planning to spend twenty minutes and emerge from two hours later, arms full and very happy about it. Located inside the iconic former Fletcher Jones clothing factory, fronted by a heritage-listed garden and that famous silver ball you’ll spot on the highway into Warrnambool. The market spans over 2,000 square metres across two floors with 60-plus experienced stallholders. Antiques, collectables, old books, retro clothing, collectable records, original artwork, vintage furniture, coins and bric-a-brac. There is always something new to find here. We love this place.

George Taylor’s Vintage and Rare Motorcycle Collection

George Taylor’s, Grassmere

Save George Taylor’s for last and you will not be disappointed. Officially a hardware store but walk through the door and you will immediately understand why this place is known across Australia. Over 100 vintage and rare motorcycles on display, two acres of merchandise under one roof, and an extraordinary range of surplus government equipment, camping gear, imported goods, kitchenware, vintage clothing and just about anything else you can imagine.

Op Shops, Various Locations

One of the great joys of travelling the Great Ocean Road region is that brilliant op shops turn up in the most unexpected places. From coastal towns to tiny farming communities, there are hidden gems right across the region.

The Corangamite Shire has put together one of the region’s best-kept secrets: a self-guided vintage trail map covering 21 businesses across its towns. Cobden has a pioneer feel to its vintage shopping with farm machinery, household wares and handmade tools that tell stories of rural life. Terang and Derrinallum both have op shops well worth a browse, and travelling between them across the wide open volcanic plains is a genuine pleasure in itself.
