London Bridge has upper western and lower eastern viewing platforms to take in the sweeping vistas. London Bridge, located just beyond Port Campbell along the Great Ocean Road, is a dramatic limestone formation that was once a double-span bridge connected to the mainland. Shaped over centuries by wind and waves eroding the weaker layers at its base, the natural wonder gained its iconic archway form before the span closest to the shore unexpectedly collapsed on 15 January 1990. Two visitors, stranded on the outer span, were rescued by helicopter—an event that captured global attention and marked a turning point in understanding the fragile and impermanent nature of this coastal landscape. Visitors were once able to walk or even drive across the eastern span before its collapse, a reminder of the dynamic forces shaping the region. Today, the lookout offers sweeping views of the arch and coastline. London Bridge is also one of two sites in Port Campbell National Park where visitors can witness Little Penguins returning to shore at dusk, with a colony of 80–100 penguins nesting on the protected beach below. While smaller in number than the colony at the Twelve Apostles, the viewing platforms here provide a closer vantage point to observe these endearing creatures. Facilities at London Bridge include a sealed path offering pram and wheelchair-friendly access to the upper viewing platform (150m return). However, the steeper, uneven path to the lower platform (300m return) is unsuitable for wheelchairs, prams, or visitors with mobility challenges.
