Fittingly named after the brig ‘Johanna’, wrecked at the mouth of the Johanna River on 22nd September 1843, this region is deep with history.
Johanna Beach offers stunning sections of the Great Ocean Walk, perfect for independent exploration or guided tours tailored to your needs. Famous for its westerly facing breaks, Johanna Beach is a popular spot for experienced surfers. It hosted the Rip Curl Pro in 2007 and 2010 when Bells Beach had average surf conditions, and the World Surfing Championships in 1970. It’s also a great spot for surf fishing, where you might catch mullet, gummy shark, or salmon for dinner. From July to September, you may also spot humpback and southern right whales out to sea.
