The Twelve Apostles, located along Victoria’s iconic Great Ocean Road, are a collection of towering limestone stacks rising dramatically from the Southern Ocean. Shaped by relentless waves and winds over millennia, these ancient formations are one of Australia’s most photographed natural landmarks, offering breathtaking views and a sense of awe-inspiring scale.
Situated within Port Campbell National Park, the Twelve Apostles can be reached via a short walk from the Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre. The design of the site, led by the Eastern Maar community, features a ‘clapstick’ structure with colours inspired by Ngayook (Sulphur Crested Cockatoo) and Ponponpoorramook (Red Tailed Black Cockatoo), both primary totemic species for the Eastern Maar peoples. The trail includes a well-maintained boardwalk leading to viewing platforms that showcase the stunning coastal vistas.
Visitors can enjoy ample parking, including accessible spaces, as well as 24/7 wheelchair-accessible toilets. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing from kiosk staff between 10:00am and 5:00pm, and sealed paths (600m) provide pram and wheelchair access to the lower viewing platform. A kiosk operates daily during these hours, while additional cafes, restaurants, and shops are just 12 km west in Port Campbell.
Sunrise and sunset are especially magical, with a golden glow enhancing the beauty of the stacks. Keep an eye out for marine birds, penguins, and seals as you explore.
