Let me help you plan your Great Ocean Road trip

I am here to help you explore the Great Ocean Road region, but I’m still learning and can make mistakes. For the best local advice, visit a visitor information centre. This is a large region, so plan for travel distances and your length of stay.

Hello

Hi! Let me help you plan your Great Ocean Road trip

A Wild West Coastal and Cultural Adventure

Travel a little further on your next Great Ocean Road getaway and uncover the magic of the region's far west frontier. Experience dramatic coastlines, enlightening cultural experiences and landscapes guaranteed to take your breath away.

DAY 1: Travel to Cape Nelson, via Portland (4.5 hours driving time from Melbourne)

Spend the night at a lighthouse

Tick a dreamy stay in a lighthouse cottage off your bucket list. While you’re here, head outside to catch breathtaking coastal views and stunning sunsets.

Explore the Cape Nelson Lighthouse precinct, take a lighthouse tour, explore nearby walking trails and then settle into your accommodation for 2 nights at Cape Nelson Lighthouse Cottages. Don’t forget this is a popular location to spot whales so keep your eyes peeled on the water.

DAY 2: Discover the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape

Discover a cultural landscape with more than 30,000 years of Indigenous history

Book a tour in advance with Budj Bim Cultural Landscape Tourism. All tours depart from Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre, home to the Tae Rak Café, where stories are shared over seasonal dishes and stunning wetland views.

Select 2 hour, half-day or full day tours (including lunch at the cafe) to learn from local Gunditj Mara guides about Budj Bim, ancient aquaculture practices at the UNESCO world heritage listed landscape, hear creation and cultural stories, and walk among ancient stone channels and traps.

Relax at your accommodation at the Cape Nelson Lighthouse Precinct, and visit nearby Cape Bridgewater and see the local fur seal colony.

DAY 2: Head home via Hot Springs

Soothing geothermal waters

Soothing geothermal waters. Rock pools. Sensory caves. Steamy waterfalls… need we say more? Deep Blue Hot Springs in Warrnambool is the perfect spot to settle in for some rejuvenation after a day of exploring.

The Bathe and Graze package includes a 90-minute bathing session in the calming Hot Springs Sanctuary, following by a fruit and cheese platter is just what you need to top off an amazing three day adventure.
