Stay and Eat in the Great Ocean Road region
Explore great foodie destinations with onsite accommodation for your ease, leaving you more time to explore.
Whether you’re travelling with a young family, or just looking for the convenience of a restaurant where you’re staying, there are many options for accommodation in the Great Ocean Road region with onsite dining experiences. Here’s our top picks:
Torquay
RACV Torquay Resort’s Hardings Lounge is open every day for casual lunch or a snack (we love the Nasi Goreng!), and Number One Restaurant on site has a menu featuring locally sourced produce.
The Sands in Torquay is another fully contained resort and the onsite restaurant Shirley’s has an all-day grazing menu with family friendly options (plus look out for live music and specials nights).
The Great Ocean Road Resort in Anglesea is located by the river and its onsite restaurant The Coast is open every night and boasts a wine list and menu that is as local as it gets, with flawless service in a modern, comfortable setting. The menu changes seasonally and the cocktails are also delightful!
Airey’s Inlet
In Aireys Inlet, step back in time to 1970’s Palm Springs (but with all the modern conveniences) at Sunnymead Hotel. Its onsite Santara Restaurant offers something a little bit unexpected, with a modern fusion inspired menu.
In Lorne you can stay at Merivale’s Lorne Hotel and choose from their two onsite dining experiences (or try them both during your stay) – the Lorne Hotel bistro, which boasts an elevated traditional pub style menu featuring lots of seafood, or Totti’s Lorne for casual (but very sophisticated) Italian dining.
When in Apollo Bay, you can stay in the centre of town with the best access to the beach, cafes, and shopping at the Apollo Bay Motel. It is located just next door to the Apollo Bay Hotel, where you can enjoy traditional pub fare or pizzas for lunch and dinner every day. Stop for a while in the public bar to enjoy live music on weekends and some banter with the locals, many of whom have been holding it up for a long time on a carefully coordinated roster.
Warrnambool
In Warrnambool you are spoilt for choice with dining and a wide range of accommodation options. For the budget conscious, you can stay on site at The Cally Hotel to make the most of the lively pub, with a fantastic menu and wine list. You will stay upstairs, above the pub, so there are no frills – but you will be happy with the money left in your pocket!
In the Lake Pertobe precinct down by the beach, Deep Blue Hotel and Hot Springs offers a range of room styles, complimented by Tides Cafe and Bar (and a bath house and hot springs!).
The Lady Bay Resort is perfect for families with a range of apartment style accommodation options – and the onsite restaurant offers a great menu with lots of options to please everyone. Just a skip away from the beach, skate park and Lake Pertobe adventure playground – this is our top choice for families.
Port Fairy
In Port Fairy, historic pubs have got special treatment with expansive renovations, and options for staying where you play!
The Merrijig Inn and Kitchen has a quirky and cosy vibe, the chefs are serious about ‘local’ and the menu changes based on the produce available. The rooms are homely and loaded with personality, and the garden bar in summer or corner bar year-round are both perfect relaxing after a day exploring Port Fairy.
The Oak and Anchor was transformed a few years ago into this vibrant Port Fairy venue where you can dine at Sidro Bar and Grill. The beer garden hosts events and music in summer and the menu is carefully constructed to offer an exceptional dining and wining experience. The 7 boutique bedroom suites are divine – if you’re looking to treat yourself, we recommend the Oak and Anchor.
The Caledonian Inn or The Stump Port Fairy, for those in the know, is the oldest licensed venue in Victoria. You may need to duck in the doorways in this pub, which has been serving up frothies since 1844. A recent change of ownership and renovation has glammed up the space, the beer garden and the menu. You can enjoy live music on Friday’s and Saturday, and it’s just a few steps to your motel style accommodation next door.
