Bay Of Martyrs
Poetic or historic? Are the stacks martyred; sentinels guarding the land from the bold affront of the Southern Ocean or reference to events around Massacre Bay to the west of Bay of Islands.
Discover the Bay of Martyrs
The Bay of Martyrs is a stunning coastal attraction located along the Great Ocean Road, offering dramatic views of towering cliffs, pristine beaches, and striking rock formations. Part of the Bay of Islands Coastal Park, this scenic spot is a quieter alternative to the more famous 12 Apostles, providing visitors with a serene, unspoiled experience of the Southern Ocean’s beauty.
Visitors please note that although dogs are permitted on the walking trail and beaches between Bay of Martyrs car park and Peterborough they are not permitted on Bay of Martyrs beach which is still home to nesting pairs of the critically endangered Hooded Plover.
Getting to the Bay of Martyrs
Located near the town of Peterborough and just a short drive from the famous 12 Apostles, the Bay of Martyrs is easily accessible by car. Lookout points along the coastal park offer breathtaking views, and several walking trails allow visitors to explore the area’s natural beauty at their own pace.
