Apollo Bay Walks and Rides
Apollo Bay is the perfect place for families to take easy walks and rides, being generally flat. Take in the views from Marriners Lookout,Walk or cycle the foreshore path between Wild Dog Creek and Marengo. Wander up a beach and connect with the sand and sea or explore the harbour and breakwater by foot. The Marengo Bush Reserve offers a 5km loop walk or for those wanting to experience one of Victoria’s most spectacular coastal walks; Apollo Bay marks the beginning of the Great Ocean Walk. It’s a Fishing Frenzy
The only thing that compares to snagging a fish are the places you get to visit in doing so. Apollo Bay ticks both boxes – teaming rivers, beaches and seas providing both picturesque backdrops and bountiful takings. Off the local beaches or harbour wall, you will be fishing for trivially, squid or flathead. Further out maybe the occasional salmon. Two popular beaches to drop in a lure are the Marengo Surf Beach and the Barham River mouth. Snag yourself a ride on a fishing boat, and the family will thank you with full bellies. There’s some good fishing in the deeper sections of Apollo Bay, but the serious fisherman might tell you to head to the richer waters of Blanket Bay, or out a little further into Bass Straight. There you will be fighting for larger salmon, shark, pike and barracoutta.
Kayaks and Coastlines
Paddle out to the seal colony, viewing the coast’s beautiful hills and reefs from a new angle.
Apollo Bay Surf & Kayak have set up a 2 hour guided kayak tour suitable for good swimmers, 12 years and up. The tour visits the Marengo Marine Sanctuary and a local fur seal colony. If you are lucky, the fur seals can come right up to the kayaks for a closer inspection of those on board. Kayaks are also available for private hire.
Surf’s Up!
Running the length of the Great Ocean Road, the coastal area around Apollo Bay puts on an endless number of beach, reef and point breaks suitable for beginner through to expert surfers. Typically, they are right hand breaks, performing best with south/east swell and north/west winds, however, there are exceptions to these rules spotted around.Air Adventures
