5 Mountain Bike Trails on the Great Ocean Road

It’s never been easier to get out and spend the day on two wheels along the trails of the Great Ocean Road region. With bike hire, tours, and a number of favourite mountain biking destinations you’ll soon see why mountain bike enthusiasts are flocking to our region.

FORREST

Dubbed Australia’s #1 mountain biking destination, the area of Forrest certainly has a lot to offer riders of all capabilities. With 16 mapped trails starting at easy 2km rides right through to the Yaugher Super Loop at 11.5km rated ‘More difficult’. Download the map here so you can plan your ride in advance. Designed around the village of Forrest, the trails showcase the natural beauty of the Great Otway National Park, passing through tall eucalyptus forests, dry heathy scrub and dense fern gullies.

The trails have been designed and built with real mountain bikers in mind and offer experiences for beginners and the most hardcore dirt fanatics.

ANGLESEA BIKE PARK MOUNTAIN CROSS TRACK

Get on your bike and head to the Anglesea Bike Park for Cyclo-Cross and trails for all abilities (find it on Camp Road).  Many trails and named tracks in the Great Otway National Park are an awesome training ground for Cyclo-cross … and guaranteed to get you fitter (and muddier) than your regular ride.

With 4 x downhill tracks, two jumps tracks, short cross country loop and trails section this naturally sloped hillside trail takes you through Anglesea’s scenic bushland. Adrenaline junkies can perfect their tricks over well-designed mounds, rollers, jumps and table tops.

EUMERALLA MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS

Bring your mountain bike and take a hike through the scenic bushy trails surrounding Anglesea exploring the Great Otway National Park on tracks around Eumeralla and on named tracks through the park (seasonal closures apply).

Eumeralla Mountain Bike trails are bounded by the Great Ocean Rd, Hurst Road and the Eumeralla Scout Camp. They offer a great mix of all ages and abilities cross country trails that traverse across appox 30km of heathland with plenty of fun jumps and rollovers.

ANGLESEA RIVER

Discover your first riding adventure together along the Anglesea River! Wind-sheltered and valley-nestled, it’s a perfect environment for kids to get out there and have a go. Jump off a pirate ship, ride a kid-friendly mountain bike trail, pop a wheelie off a jump at a bike park, then splash in or on the water. If you can’t get a little dirty, muddy or breathless, you’re not even trying!

TIMBOON TO CAMPERDOWN RAIL TRAIL

The rail trails of the Great Ocean Road region offer a more relaxed pace for those wanting to be able to take in the views of the countryside. Our pick of rail trails is the Timboon to Camperdown Rail Trail which covers 34 km and includes the 12 Apostles hinterland and the volcanic lakes and plains of Camperdown. Although steep in parts many sections of this trail are suitable for a wide range of abilities. Ride With Us offer bike hire and bike shuttles within the 12 Apostles coast and hinterland region allowing you to complete a section and book a pick-up and transfer to your next stop – how good is that?
