Set on a 120-acre farm in the rolling Surf Coast hinterland, Moriac Heights is a garden full of discovery, creativity and rustic rural charm. What began as a bare paddock has evolved over 20 years into a richly layered 1.5-acre landscape of winding paths, hidden focal points and colourful planting designed to surprise at every turn.
Meandering pathways lead through drifts of cottage flowers, hardy natives, sculptural succulents and seasonal colour beneath a canopy of beautiful gums. Proteas, grevilleas, roses, lavender and ornamental trees provide year-round interest, while garden art and sculptures created by owners Dianne and Michael add personality and whimsy.
Rural heritage features strongly, with Dianne’s charming wheat silo mural complemented by Michael’s collection of vintage farm machinery, old wagons and a recreated shearing shed. The Pond, with its rocky waterfall, bridge, central island, waterlilies and irises, provides a tranquil garden highlight and habitat for hundreds of native frogs.
The productive vegetable garden and fruit trees help supply family and friends, with self-seeding alyssums and calendulas attracting pollinators. Developed on challenging clay soil and reliant on a farm dam for water, the garden reflects years of experimentation, resourcefulness and thoughtful plant selection.
During the open weekend, enjoy CWA Devonshire teas, garden talks, local art and plant sales, with proceeds supporting Zoe’s Fight, assisting the fight against paediatric brain cancer.
