A cherished Port Fairy tradition since 1947, the Moyneyana Festival has grown into a vibrant summer celebration, offering a diverse program of events and activities for holidaymakers who visit the region each year during late December to mid-January.
The festival’s centrepiece is the much-loved New Year’s Eve Procession, where local residents, community groups and organisations create imaginative floats, often with a humorous twist, in the hope of taking home the coveted Champion Float award. The festivities continue with live music and entertainment throughout the evening and a spectacular midnight fireworks display that lights up the Port Fairy skyline.
Another crowd favourite is the Duck Derby on New Year’s Day, where competitors race rubber ducks along East Beach for the chance to win great prizes. Throughout the festival, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, including community markets, the Lions Club Art Show, surf lessons, outdoor movie screenings, guided town and cemetery walks, golf competitions, cricket matches and family fun days at Belfast Aquatics.
A full program of events are available in the weeks leading up to the festival. You can access the program online and from various businesses throughout town, including the Port Fairy and Region Visitor Information Centre.
