Located offshore from the township of Marengo, the sanctuary is just a few minutes from Apollo Bay on the iconic Great Ocean Road.
Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary protects 12 hectares of diverse marine life. It’s an underwater haven that can be explored by snorkelling, swimming, or guided tours. Little Henty Reef, just 100-150 metres offshore, is home to a variety of sea life, including seals and vibrant kelp forests.
The reef’s proximity to shore makes it an accessible destination for snorkelers. The protected area is home to Australian Fur Seals and offers a rare chance to observe these creatures up close. Guided kayaking tours are popular here.
Apollo Bay offers additional coastal adventures including surfing, beach walks, and the Apollo Bay Fishing Charters.
Seasonal highlights: During warmer months, the marine life is more active, and guided tours are more frequent.
