The site is a little remote and blowy but spectacular in its display of wildlife and coastline.
The cottages were built in 1876. Labourers built them from bluestone quarried from the district as was the lighthouse. The cottages have been restored to a similar plan to the original while providing modern touches for comfort.
The open fireplaces are a feature in most of the cottages. The kitchens feature all appliances necessary for the most fastidious cook. Most of the bathrooms have a wonderful bath in which to soak after a full day of walking on the many tracks that emanate from the site.
The Head Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage also offers an outdoor spa.
There are large televisions, DVDs, games and internet access but if you choose to do so, the precinct offers you the opportunity to feel that you are completely away from it all.
Daily tours of the lighthouse itself are also on offer.
