Raise a glass: Wineries, Distilleries, and Breweries of the Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is renowned for its breathtaking coastal views and stunning landscapes, but what you might not know it is also home to a scene of wineries, distilleries, and breweries. Let’s take a journey through some of the must-visit spots for wine enthusiasts, spirit lovers, and beer aficionados alike.

Koroit

1. Noodledoof

The small village of Koroit at the western end of the road is home to craft brewery and distillery, Noodledoof. The taplist at Noodledoof changes often as a result of small batch brewing influenced by the changing seasons and local ingredients. Full menu dining is on offer for lunch on Thursdays to Sundays and dinner Friday and Saturday nights.

Tip: don’t miss out on trying their spirit selection which showcase a distinctive taste, incorporating native botanicals like correa alba, lemon myrtle, and mountain pepper, sourced with expertise from the surrounding area.

Barongarook

2. Otway Estate

This hidden gem in the heart of the Otways is home to Prickly Moses Brewery, Redwood Distillery & Forbidden Fruit Cider. Whilst most commonly known for Prickly Moses beers there is much more on offer at Otway Estate. On visiting the cellar door you will experience a diverse range of beverages with culinary pairings of local cheese and produce platters which you can enjoy in the backyard or deck area or in the winter months inside beside a warming fire.

Tip: Plan your trip in advance and book in for a gin blending masterclass and with hands-on guidance you will craft your own unique gin recipe tailored to your tastes.

Dixie

3. Keayang Maar

Nestled in Dixie, between Terang and Timboon, lies Keayang Maar Vineyard. The cellar door at Keayand Maar is open Wednesday to Sunday 11 am to 5 pm and you can enjoy tasting cool climate wines as well as local produce platters and Italian pizza.

Tip: While a variety of grapes are grown on site, Keayang Maar has a focus on red varietals so be sure to try the Pinot Noir or Shiraz.

Warrnambool

4. Sow & Piglets Microbrewery

The village of Port Campbell is known by most due to its close proximity to the iconic 12 Apostles but you will also find a vibrant community home to Sow and Piglets Microbrewery. Here you can enjoy German style beers such as Kolsch and Marzen among many others. With plenty of room outside on the deck or inside on a cosy couch there is more than enough room for you to gather your friends and try a brew.

And do you want to know a fun fact? The name Sow and Piglets was one of the previous names of the 12 Apostles according to older charts of the area.

Tip: if you need a place to rest your head the Sow and Piglets is more than just a microbrewery, it is also a guesthouse.

Koroit

5. Suffoir Winery, Brewery & Distillery

Welcome to Suffoir Winery, Brewery, and Distillery located in the small town of Macarthur. Sample estate-grown Pinot Noir, experience the brews of The Three Alpacas beer range, and savor the unique flavors of handcrafted gins such as Australian Botanical Gin, and Pinot Noir Gin, among others.
