Winter warmers you don’t want to miss on your Greatopia road trip

It might be cold out but don’t let that stop you. Here in Greatopia, there are plenty of hearty dishes and warming spirits to keep you nice and toasty.

Chicken Ruby, at Santara Restaurant, Aireys Inlet

Head to sunny Santara Restaurant for their Chicken Ruby – a chicken makhani curry, with yoghurt and pomegranate. A beautiful fragrant and colourful dish on our Indian-inspired fusion menu to match our colourful Sunnymead Hotel where Santara is located.
This dish gets its name from “Ruby Murray” which is Cockney rhyming slang for curry, from the British background of our Executive Chef, Adam Cooke.

‘On the Road Again’ Cocktail at The Coast Restaurant, Anglesea

At Greatopian favourite, The Coast Restaurant in Anglesea, you can get your hands on this colourful cocktail.  Great Ocean Road Raspberry Gin, Malibu, Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie raspberry sorbet, and lemonade.

This sweet, colourful cocktail consists of local small-batch Great Ocean Road Gin and locally sourced sorbet made just the down the road at the chocolaterie in Bellbrae.

Kooyang Tasting Plate at Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre Bush Tucker Cafe

The Kooyang (eel) Tasting Plate prepared by a local Gunditjmara chef is a signature of the Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre’s Bush Tucker Cafe. Accompanied by a selection of carefully curated bush herbs & spices the Kooyand Tasting Plate will leave you satisfied and ready to continue on your Greatopia adventure.

‘Coffee for a cause’ at Emu Cafe Wildlife Wonders, Apollo Bay

This unique house-blend coffee “The Wildside”, is roasted locally in Apollo Bay by Hello Coffee and served exclusively at Wildlife Wonders. It supports wildlife conservation right across the chain of coffee production, from rehabilitating native birds in Brazil, where this single-origin coffee is grown, through to supporting conservation right here in the Otways, where it is roasted and served.

You can enjoy this delicious chocolatey blend while soaking up the atmosphere in our Cafe, pick up a cup from our Coffee Caravan, or grab a bag of beans from our gift shop to savour at home. The Wildlife Wonders Cafe is open to the public daily from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Homemade Scones at Lightkeeper’s Cafe, Cape Otway

Visitors to the Cape Otway Lightstation can enjoy our famous homemade scones with jam and cream at the Lightkeeper’s Cafe. Baked fresh throughout the day by our talented team, our delicious scones are served with Chantilly cream and local Otway Kitchen strawberry jam.

Take a break from exploring our heritage precinct to enjoy the soaring views of the Lighthouse and warm up with a locally roasted Hello Coffee. All that’s left to decide is whether the jam goes on before the cream or the cream before the jam — YUM!

Plan your visit — the Cape Otway Lightstation is open daily from 9:30-5pm (last entry 4:30pm) and our Lightkeepers cafe is open from 10:30am — 4pm.

So, wrap your hands around a steaming mug or bowl, and let the magic of winter warmers nourish your body, soothe your spirit, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
