Home to the internationally acclaimed Bells Beach Surf League competition, the Great Ocean Road Region easily boasts one of the best surf beaches in Australia. Many are surprised to learn Bells Beach is just one of the Great Ocean Road beaches included among the best surf beaches in Victoria.
There is, of course, Johanna Beach – which is where the Surf League competition moves to when the westerly facing Johanna picks up swell that misses Bells. But while Johanna and Bells are great, the truth is that other beaches in our region are more likely to top our local surfer’s best surfing beaches lists.
These include Easter Reef, Gibson’s Step and even spots in the family-friendly Apollo Bay. Among the best surf beaches in Victoria are also Black Nose Point in Portland and Warrnabool Beach in Warrnambool.
Torquay has the most popular places for surf beaches near Melbourne. Their surf spots not only include the renowned Bells Beach but also Jan Juc and Winkipop.
