Timboon, the perfect picnic spot!

Timboon, the perfect picnic spot!

Timboon is a picnic-ers paradise. With so much produce on offer as part of the 12 Apostles Food Artisan Trail, you can pick up an afternoon’s worth of food in one swoop.

Schulz Organic Creamery & Cafe

First stop, cheese of course. Stop by Schulz Organic Creamery & Cafe, home to farmhouse cheese where you can pick up some of your favourites, or even a cheese and charcuterie platter. The cheesecake is not to be missed.

Their motto is “happy cows produce delicious milk” and they pride themselves on having happy cows and producing in small batches, and the cheese they produce speaks for itself.

Dairylicious Farm Fudge

Next stop, something sweet. At Dairylicious Farm Fudge you can pick up packets of freshly made…you guessed it, fudge. Classic chocolate, creamy salted caramel, cherry coconut, ginger caramel just to name a few of their creations.

Situated in the heart of dairy country, they use all local butter, cream and milk.

Timboon Railway Shed Distillery

On the road again, we head to Timboon Railway Shed Distillery for their true small batch single malt whisky, definitely made with love.

A must-take on the picnic is their salted caramel whisky liqueur, smooth single malt whisky infused with salted caramel and burnt sugar. Yum.

Timboon Fine Ice Cream

The final stop is one you will want plenty of ice (and room) in that esky for! Timboon Fine Ice Cream. Of course using all local milk and cream, you will be hard pressed to choose just a few from their 24 flavours including passionfruit meringue, espresso, whisky cream, apple pie and the classics like rum and raisin.

For those non-dairy fans, don’t worry they have sorbets as well. You can also treat your furry four-legged friend with their Winnie & Rose Doggie Ice Cream.

The perfect picnic spots

Now you’ve got your picnic, you need to find a place to set down and enjoy. Here are our suggestions:

To stay local, you can set yourself up by the Trestle bridge on the grassy bank on the Timboon to Camperdown Rail Trail. Better yet you can hire bikes from Ride With Us that come with a little box on the back for your picnic and ride there! Of if you’d like, they can even organise the picnic for you.

If you want to head coastal, Loch Ard Gorge is a stunning place, or even on the picnic benches at Port Campbell overlooking the jetty.
