Where To See Birds In Victoria

If you would like to know where to see birds in Victoria, the Great Ocean Road is a must for bird lovers. You will spot Cockatoos all along the coast and the Otways is home to parrots and robins. You may also spot Kookaburras, but if you don’t, you’ll certainly hear their iconic call! Cockatoos are everywhere along the coast and waterbirds can be spotted in the many estuaries and lakes. In the Otways you will find parrots and colourful robins.

Where To See Kangaroos In Victoria

Kangaroos can be spotted throughout the Great Ocean Road. You will quite often see them jumping around paddocks or perched up with their ears twitching watching you curiously.

Two of the most popular spots for kangaroo spotting is the car park at Johanna Beach and the Gellibrand River flats at Princetown. Where to see kangaroos in Victoria, especially if you’re looking for a tour is the Anglesea Golf Course where you’ll get to see their many resident kangaroos on one of their ‘Roo Tours’.

Where To See Whales Victoria

There are a few places along the Great Ocean Road where you can see whales in Victoria at different times of the year. Here are a few of the hotspots:

  • Portland (during summer months you’ll spot Blue Whales)
  • Port Fairy
  • Logans Beach, Warrnambool (Southern Right Whale nursery where whales can be spotted between late May and early October)
  • Cape Otway Lightstation

Where To See Wombats In Victoria

Wombats reside throughout Victoria but because they are nocturnal, they aren’t always easy to find. On the Great Ocean Road, the Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve is where to see wombats in Victoria.

You have the option of doing a guided tour or taking a self-guided walk to spot these furry little residents. Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve is also a great place to learn about the region’s Aboriginal heritage.

Where To See Penguins In Victoria

Where to see penguins in Victoria if you’re visiting the Great Ocean Road is the 12 Apostles or London Bridge — both locations have viewing decks. It is an amazing experience seeing the penguins in their natural habitat, making their way ashore. The best time to spot the penguins is at sunset so make sure you head to either of these spots around this time.
