Welcome to Appleton, a town where the potatoes are fast, the traditions are dusty, and the prize money is wildly unfair.
This spring, The Colac Players present The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race, a sparkling Australian comedy by Melanie Tait that’s equal parts heartwarming and hilarious.
When Penny, the town’s prodigal daughter, returns from the big smoke to set up shop as the local General Physician, she’s not expecting to stir the pot. But when she discovers the men’s prize in the annual potato race is five times the women’s, she grabs her metaphorical sack and starts running – straight into a tangle of gender politics, generational friction, and good old-fashioned small-town stubbornness.
Directed by Jennifer Maclean and starring Palila Opit, Leah Wiernik, Chelsea Sharp, Bairbre Williams and Pauline Van Dijk.
