Denise and Russ Murfitt established Greenfield, a peaceful and thoughtfully designed garden in Moriac, a small village in Victoria’s Surf Coast Shire, almost 18 years ago. What was once a barren sheep paddock has been transformed into a sanctuary of calm and beauty. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Yutori, meaning space, ease, and breathing room, the garden encourages visitors to slow down, be present, and enjoy a tranquil connection with nature.
Winding paths beneath a canopy of birches, maples, and flowering cherries reveal hidden corners and ever-changing views. Visitors can pause in the serene Japanese courtyard with a bubbling water feature, Japanese black pine, and seasonal blooms, or explore the secret garden filled with hydrangea, fushcia, and ferns, under the canopy of a stunning Forest Pansy. The rear garden offers a peaceful view down to a majestic lemon-scented gum.
Lilies, roses, hydrangeas, and peonies fill the perennial borders with colour, while birds and a sixty-year-old bonsai bring life and heritage. The entertainment courtyard houses a flourishing shade house filled with hostas, begonias, fuchsias, and clematis.
Greenfield also embraces sustainability with a productive vegetable garden and orchard. Artworks and plants grown on-site will be available for purchase during the opening.
