Gherang Gardenalia, a much-loved four-acre garden in Victoria’s Surf Coast hinterland, will open as part of Open Gardens Victoria’s 10th Anniversary Garden series. This vibrant, ever-changing space first opened with Open Gardens Victoria in 2016 and reflects the interests of owners Karen and Geoff, who are horticulturists, artists, and collectors. It has become a favourite with gardener lovers due to its creativity, resilience, and welcoming spirit.
Set between the Great Otway National Park and open farmland, the garden features drought-tolerant natives and exotics, including grevilleas, banksias, salvias, sedums and ornamental grasses, all thriving entirely on rainwater. Gravel paths wind through eclectic garden rooms, where playful up-cycled sculptures surprise and delight. A standout feature is the living wall of Banksia marginata, dividing two distinct garden zones.
Shady pathways, open lawn areas, two veggie gardens, a citrus grove, a glasshouse and a pool offer moments of serenity and discovery. Carefully adapted to local soil and climate, this is a garden shaped as much by environment as by imagination.
As part of Open Gardens Victoria’s 10-year celebrations, Gherang Gardenalia’s opening invites new and returning visitors to wander, reflect, and be inspired. Enjoy teas, local art, and a garden full of heart and history.
