Lake Elingamite

The crater rim above the lake offers great views and a strong impression of the volcanic nature of the lake.

Nestled in the heart of Victoria’s volcanic lakes and plains, Lake Elingamite offers a serene escape for nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts alike. With its tranquil waters and abundant fish species, this unique spot is perfect for a weekend getaway.

Camping at Lake Elingamite

For those seeking a peaceful camping experience, Lake Elingamite permits self-contained vehicles to stay for a maximum of three days. However, it’s important to note that there are no toilet facilities on-site. Therefore, camping is only allowed in vehicles equipped with an inbuilt toilet facility. This policy ensures the preservation of the natural environment while offering visitors a comfortable and sustainable stay.

Fishing Opportunities

Lake Elingamite is renowned for its fishing potential, particularly for brown trout and redfin (also known as English perch). Thanks to the abundance of food in the lake, both species experience strong growth rates, providing anglers with the chance to reel in some impressive catches.

Bank fishing can be a bit challenging due to the lake’s structure and vegetation, but there is a jetty near the boat ramp that offers a more accessible spot. For those with watercraft, the concrete ramp provides good access, although it can become more difficult when water levels are low.

Access Information

The lake’s concrete boat ramp allows easy access for watercraft, making it ideal for anglers who prefer to fish from the water. However, during periods of low water levels, launching may require extra caution. For those who prefer to fish from the shore, the jetty near the boat ramp is the most viable option, as bank fishing is often tricky in most conditions.
