Waterfall Choices

Most waterfalls are located around Lorne, with Currawong Falls  being the exception - it's located near Aireys Inlet.

The best  time to visit is in winter as the rains swell the rivers, however they also make a pleasant retreat in summer escaping the heat and the crowds.

Cora Lyn Cascades

Cora Lyn Cascades

Cora Lyn cascades flow over a series of exposed shale ledges. The cascades are a 4km return walk from Blanket Leaf picnic ground, off Erskine Falls Road, a few kilometres from Lorne. The return walk to the cascades takes about 90 minutes.

Erskine Falls

Erskine Falls

Erskine Falls is a short drive out of Lorne on appropriately named Erskine Falls Road. It is one of the most popular falls in the Otways and easily accessible. A five-minute walk from the car park brings you to an lookout of the falls, cascading 30 metres into a beautiful tree fern gully. You also can take steps down to the Erskine River to view the falls from below. Experienced walkers can follow the river from Erksine Falls to Lorne. The 7.5km one-way walk takes about three hours and passes Straw Falls and Splitter Falls. It should not be attempted when water levels are high.

Henderson Falls

Henderson Falls and Phantom Falls are reached from the Sheoak Creek Picnic area, 4 km along Allenvale Rd. There are barbecue facilities, toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces and drinking water. This is an easy hike, return to
both falls is about 2.5 hours, on the way is also Won Wondha Falls. Henderson Falls is about 8 to 10 meters, Panthom Falls about 15 meters high."

Kalimna Falls

Kalimna Falls

The Upper and Lower Kalimna falls are a four-hour, 8km return walk from the Sheoak picnic area, which is a 4km drive from Lorne. The pretty falls are fringed by tall rainforest trees and dense tree ferns. The walk follows the route of an old tramway and some of the old sleepers can still be seen. The return walk to the picnic area can be made along Garvey track.

Phantom Falls

The spectacular Phantom Falls are a 2.5km, 90-minute return walk along the St Georges River from the Allenvale Mill site, on Allenvale Road, two kilometres out of Lorne. Other nearby attractions include Won Wondah and Hendersons falls, and The Canyon.

Sheoak Falls

Off the Great Ocean Road, near Lorne. The 1km return walk takes about an hour. Views of the falls are possible within a 10-minute walk from the car park. While not falling for a great distance, the water passes over a dark rock face within a natural amphitheatre, making for spectacular viewing.

Currawong Falls

Located near Aireys Inlet, its a moderate, 4-hour 12-kilometre return walk from the Distillery Creek picnic ground. The Currawong Falls are at their best in the winter and spring and the site offers fine views of the surrounding countryside.

Straw Falls

Straw Falls are a 15m cascade on the Erskine River and are a further 400m downstreams of Erskine Falls. Access is an easy 5 minute drive inland from Lorne, is on a sealed road with a sealed carpark.
