Exploring the Otway region can be done in many ways. Taking a drive will allow you to explore some of the secluded and wonderful bush tracks throughout the area.

Forest & Views Drive

Forest & Views Drive

Take in some of the impressive views along the Great Ocean Road and overlooking the coast. Discover the forest and observe its past and present uses. Experience the serenity at Lake Elizabeth, and the West Barwon Reservoir. Enjoy the many galleries and tearooms. The drive is approximately 90kms and some roads are narrow and unsealed. The route follows the Great Ocean Road, Skenes Creek Road, Forrest-Apollo Bay Road, Kaanglang Road, Benwerrin-Mt. Sabine Road and Grey River Road. It is advisable to check road conditions with the visitor information centres before travelling on these roads.

Waterfalls & Forest Drive

This stunning 109km (2 1/2hour excluding stops) loop drive takes in Apollo Bay, Cape Otway, Lavers Hill, and Beech Forest. Possible stops include the Cape Otway Lightstation, Great Otway National Park, Otway Fly Treetop Walk, waterfalls, rainforest walks and galleries. Use a full day to explore this loop if possible.

Turbulent volcanic activity shaped much of western Victoria’s landscape and coast. See massive crater lakes, extinct volcanic cones and fascinating formations left in the wake of an era of immense upheaval. Take a short trip around the outskirts of Colac and you will discover more about the volcanic history. The route follows the Princes Hwy, Colac-Ballarat Road, Mingawalla Road, Cororooke Road, Colac-Ballarat Road, Corangamite Lake Road, Nalangil Road and Princes Hwy.

William Buckley Trail

William Buckley Trail

Visit sites at Red Rock, Barramunga and Mt Defiance offering interpretive signs explaining the life of escaped convict William Buckley. Brochures are available from Colac and Apollo Bay Visitor Information Centres.

Otways Gourmet Wine & Food Trail

Otways Gourmet Wine & Food Trail

200kms (3hrs excluding stops) Head inland from the Great Ocean Road to taste farm fresh produce off the land. Possible stops include pick your own berry and fruit farms, wineries, olive oil, creamy icecream, western beef, gourmet sausages and sensational seafood. Take a full day to explore this loop if possible- Note that some produce is seasonal. Contact Colac & Apollo Bay Visitor Information Centres if unsure of the seasons.
