Did you meet the love of your life on the dance floor? Were you a regular at the Palais during the palmy days of the 1930s, or when British supergroup The Shadows performed in the 1960s?
Take a waltz down memory lane with an exhibition celebrating the history of Geelong’s historic Joy Ark and Palais Royal. Known as ‘the birthplace of a thousand romances’, generations of Geelong people met on the Palais dance floor, while international performers attracted huge crowds.
This exhibition will highlight the many different eras of the Palais, from the 1930s, when women wore long evening gowns and men dressed in dinner suits, through the big band era of the late 1940s, to the swinging ’60s. Come along and reminisce!
On show from 13 February to 23 May 2010
