Red Rock (Volcanic) Lookout

Just a 10 minute drive from Colac, Red Rock Lookout offers a stunning glimpse into Australia’s volcanic heritage. As one of the country’s youngest volcanoes, this site boasts a rich geological history, with its formation dating back approximately 8,000 years.

Visitors can enjoy spectacular 360-degree views from the lookout. This remarkable lake, formed when cooling lava flows redirected watercourses, serves as a natural dam. With a salinity three times that of seawater.

There is a small viewing platform at the carpark or a stair climb leading to the main lookout. Before you head up, you’ll find toilets, a playground, and BBQ facilities just 500 metres before the lookout—perfect for a family activity.
